Location: Gabon, Central Africa

Salary: 2,000 – 5,000 RM

• Qualifications:
  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, Geographic
  Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Forestry, Natural Resources
  Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience as a
  cartographer, GIS technician, or in a related geospatial role, preferably within
  the forestry or natural resources sector.
• Advanced proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS (ArcMap,
  ArcGIS Pro) and/or QGIS .
• Experience with GPS data collection, processing, and differential
  correction.
• Strong understanding of geodetic datums, map projections, and
  coordinate systems .
• Experience in managing spatial databases.
• Proficiency in Python for automating GIS tasks and spatial analysis is
  a strong asset .
• Experience with remote sensing data (e.g., satellite imagery, LiDAR)
  analysis is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and update the company's Geographic
  Information System (GIS) databases with data from aerial photography, GPS
  surveys, ground inventories, and legal descriptions of concession boundaries.
• Plan, design, and generate high-quality maps and charts for various operational needs
• Perform spatial analysis to support forestry activities, such as
  calculating harvestable areas, analyzing terrain for operational feasibility (e.g.,
  slope analysis as described for GWI's concessions), and tracking changes in
  forest cover.
• Process and integrate GPS field data collected by
  forestry teams into the central GIS system, ensuring accuracy and precision.
• Inspect final map compositions and spatial data for
  completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including those required for FSC audits and government submissions, by providing clear maps and spatial data analysis.
• Provide training and technical support to field teams and other departments on the use of GIS tools and data collection technologies.
