Job Title: HGV Mechanic

Location: United Kingdom

Salary: ₱274K– ₱295K

Qualification and Experience requirement:
• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent qualification.
• Time-served apprenticeship in HGV mechanics (preferred).
• IRTEC accreditation or willingness to obtain (advantageous).
• Valid HGV Class 1 or 2 license (desirable but not essential).
• Knowledge of DVSA inspection standards and current legislation.

Preferred Skills:
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills specific to HGV systems.
• Competent with diagnostic tools and software for modern truck systems (e.g.,
MANcats, Tech Tool, TEXA, DAF DAVIE, Scania SDP3).
• Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
• Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on safety and compliance.
• Good communication and teamwork skills within a busy workshop environment.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service procedures.
• Capable of completing high-quality repairs independently to reduce downtime.

 

Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & Servicing
  • Perform routine HGV maintenance and servicing according to manufacturer schedules and DVSA standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections, pre-MOT checks, and scheduled fleet checks.
  • Service and repair braking, suspension, steering, hydraulics, drivetrain, and electrical systems.

2. Diagnostics & Repair

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
  • Perform engine, gearbox, clutch, and component repairs.
  • Repair air brakes, ABS/EBS, emissions, and DEF/AdBlue systems.
  • Carry out roadside breakdown repairs when required.

3. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all work meets DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate inspection, service, and repair records.
  • Follow workshop safety procedures and ensure vehicles are roadworthy.

4. Workshop Support

  • Coordinate with drivers, fleet managers, and supervisors on vehicle issues.
  • Assist with MOT preparation and testing.
  • Monitor parts and consumables and support preventive maintenance initiatives.
