Location: Gabon, Central Africa

Salary: 2,000 – 5,000 RM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic French speaking.
  • Knowledge on forestry rules and labour law of Gabon.
  • Possess more than 5 years working experience in logging operations.
  • Knowledge on GPS, Compass and Clinometer
  • Management skills.
  • Rigorous and vigilance

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To perform clear boundary marking as stated below, for log harvesting activities as per the
    approved terrains by the local authority.
  • To perform the AAC boundary line as per the target set by Camp In-Charge
  • To conduct Layonnage as per the target set by Camp In-Charge
  • To count trees by parcel and update the information of terrain, river and other
    observations in the counting sheet.
  • To conduct Blocking as per the target set by Camp In-Charge
  • To refresh boundary every three months
  • Responsible in providing accurate periodic inventory report and migrating information from
    GPS for mapping and monitoring purposes.
  • To perform on-site inspection on forest area prior to the marking of boundary into respective
    “blocks” ie identifying the terrain, river, hill etc.
  • To conduct survey on each block prior to the commencing of logging activities.
  • To identify the most ideal path for logs to be transported from the forest to the stumping.
  • To conduct re-survey on each block after commencement of logging activities and perform
    inspection (hammer mark on stumps and on the trees before skidding of logs, no undersized
    logs etc.)
  • To report to the Camp-in-charge on daily basis on logging work progress for each block.
  • At each block of identified forest, ensure trees are being harvested and skidded before closing the block, no logs are abandoned or left standing (not felled), rivers are cleaned up,
    entries are blocked (to prohibit access) etc. (post logging activities)
  • To conduct ad-hoc on-site inspection to check for intruders or illegal loggers in our logging
    forest.
  • To perform on-site inspection on tree stumps, road, river, bridge etc. and submit report to the
    Management for decision making.
  • Ensure logging activities compliances with the safety standards, practices of reduced impact
    logging, Gabon Forestry rules and regulations.
  • Responsible in managing and supervise the Forest Management Team (tagging team, office
    team, logging control, post logging, illegal activities and fauna, external social).
